Disaster - Hurricanes, etc. Tips
- Spray paint your phone number on your horse or livestock. Many horses ended up in auction because the owners couldn't be found.
- Use a breakaway halter, if any at all. This will help if someone is trying to catch your animal and if it gets caught on something it can hopefully break free.
- Keep you horses or livestock outside - this is safest.
HOOF BANDAGES
- Take a small disposable diaper, place on hoof and cover with duct tape. I put some vet wrap right at the top of the hoof over the hair so that the duct tape will not stick to the hair when it is removed.
- Buy a piece of heavy duty 2" styrofoam and cut it into squares slightly larger than the horse's foot. Trace the hoof onto the phone and cut it out. Then duct tape it onto the hoof. Within a day or so, the foam will have pressed into the hoof so you might want to retape it. Suggest that you do this to both feet, i.e. if injury is on front, both front feet.
